Hi Joan,

If the boiler is on F26 and knocking and banging, it would indicate the 2 things mentioned like a slugish pump or some dirt or debris within the heating system. If the system is over 25 years old there would be some serious deposits of debris in there, and just having one powerflush wouldnt really get rid of all the debris within there.

It sounds as though now that dirt has gotten into the pump and maybe slowed it down and possibly the heat exchanger which is causing the banging noise.

We'd advise you to contact an engineer to consult and make sure everything is 100%. He or she will be able to provide more information on a powerflush.

Hope everything is sorted soon.

Dear Glow.Worm
I have a 24hxi boiler and am having a problem with it. The boiler is showing fault F 26, saying that there is a fault with the Thermistor. The boiler is quite noisey and there is a loud knocking noise from the boiler when it appears to fire up. I have had a plumber out to the boiler and he has replaced the Thermistors, which hasn't solved the problem, the boiler is tripping out still with fault F 26. This is happening during the day and doesn't appear to happen at night. I have the program on my heating system to come on at various times during the day and as mentioned the fault appears during the day nothing at night. I have tried to pin down the time of it tripping out to see if it coincides with the times on the progamer, but it doesn't seem to be.
I am a bit alarmed as I am being told that it's a case of elimination now, ie the pump or the heating exchange, all of which are a very costly affair. The boiler isn't that old I believe 5 years. My previous boiler was over 25years old. The system was power flushed in February 2010.
Any assistance you can give would be appreciated.
Regards

Hi Alan - yes you can turn the pre-heat function off, but unfortunately you can not program it to come on at certain times of the day. To turn it off, press and hold the mode button for 5 seconds till you get a flashing 0, use the - key of either the heating or hot water and scroll to 96, press mode once then you should see d0. Use the + or - key to scroll to d74, if a 1 is shown above d74 then it is on, so press mode once so the 1 flashes, change that to a 0 with the - key, press mode once then keep your finger on mode for 5 seconds till you go back to the main screen. This has taken the pre-heat off for you. Hope this sorts if for you.

Hi, I have an Ultracom 38CXI and I'd like to know if it's possible to either turn off the hot-water pre-heat or set it to only pre-heat at certain times of the day. We only use DHW at certain times, so it seems wasteful to keep the water heated all the time.
How is this changed?

Best regards,

Alan

We have a glowworm boiler and on start up loud banging can be heard. On several occasions it gets very loud and even trips out the boiler.on restarting the boiler, the noise dissapears and works as normal. we have had an engineer out several times and he has tested the boiler and says everything is as it should be. Is this normal. I assume the banging is air in the system, but as it is a closed system , and all readiators have been bled, i am at a loss to where the air is coming from. Andy advise please

Hi David

Is the fault still with low water pressure? or is the pressure displayed above 1 bar? if so then when does it go to F9, is it during ignition or doesn't it even get that far? There could be a number of possibilities for the fault, it might be better to ask your engineer to give us a call directly when he is front of the boiler so we can go through some voltage checks with him. Our telephone number is 01773 828300, and we will be happy to help.

Thanks

we have a 38cxi boiler which just recently came up with an F9 fault. A plumbing engineer came and reset the pressure which was at .7 bar to that recommended. He then took out the pressure sensor cleaned it and made sure water was flowing, then checked the pump which was clear and working. He now says that the probable fault is with the circuit board. can you please advise prior to us changing the circuit board
