Are you reading this after frantically searching the web for advice on what do with a broken boiler?
Relax, take a deep breath and consider:
- Have you consulted a qualified Gas Safe accredited installer? Check our list of qualified engineers here, to view those nearest to your home.
- Double and triple check your boiler cover – do you have a policy? Check your paper work to see if you have a policy and consult them ASAP to decide the best possible course of action.
- Is your boiler still within its warranty period? Glow-worm boilers are covered by a two year manufacturer’s warranty and, if your boiler is still within this time frame, we’ll send an engineer out free of charge to fix your boiler.
- If your boiler needs replacing don’t rush into buying the first boiler you Google. Consult a Gas Safe qualified installer, you can find a list on our website, or complete our boiler calculator to accurately prescribe the best boiler for your home.
- Our list of Gas Safe registered installers includes those who have been trained to a tip top Glow-worm standard. If you want to be doubly sure, ask them to provide details for recent customers who can verify their service.

Back to topI have a almost unused Glow worm Compact 75p boiler and need to know what type of room stat is required for this boiler?( 8/10 yrs old. ) Is it a no-volt requirement or a 240v requirement? Boiler working at present on a no volt situation but takes forever to turn on and off on its own. Any ideas please.

Hi Ian
I believe that there are eight LEDs in total and will flash in accordance to what the fault is.
Do you still have your guide? Page 51 should provide all you need to know.
If not please call our team on 01773 828300.

Hi,
Back to topWe have a 4 yr old 15hxi that has worked faultlessly until now. The issue we have now is that once every few days a fault F1 code appears. If I reset the boiler it fires and then is OK again for a few days. This has been going on for a few weeks. Any ideas gratefully received?

Hi Margaret
You need to contact an installer to relight – check our website for an installer in your area.

Hi Mark – There could be several reasons for the appearance of this code (ignition, gas flow etc). We would advise that you contact an installer and arrange for them to check it out.

Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend any installers who are familiar with this boiler? I have had some bad experiences with poor installers in the past who simply kept replacing bits until the boiler started working.

I HAVE AN OLD GLOW WORM FUEL SAVER AND THE PILOT LIGHT FLUCTUATES AND SOMETIMES GOES OUT. I HAVE HAD VARIOUS PARTS REPLACED INCLUDING A NEW VALVE AND THE COST TO REPAIR NOW TOTALS AROUND £400. A NEW THERMOCOUPLER IS REPLACED EVERY YEAR BUT STILL THE BOILER GOES OUT AFTER THE BOILER FIRES UP AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME. hELP

Hi Graham – It’s not a fault with your boiler but you should call out a plumber to help sort this out.

Hi Steve – I’ve checked with some of my colleagues about this one and they believe it sounds as though it could be connected to either not a genuine thermocouple or seal around the combustion chamber. It could be an idea to check with a different installer – check out our approved list. Cheers

Hi Lindsey – F22 refers to poor circulation due to trapped air, a blockage or weak pump. I’d advise you to contact a service engineer to help diagnose the problem.

Hello having problems with 35ci combi ,hot water is ok but heating works but boiler temp only gets to 40 then stops firing even though stat is calling for more heat .Any sugestions

Hi Andy – This could be down to a number of reasons: it could be that the thermostat isn’t putting the correct voltage to the boiler to keep it fired up, it could also be that you have some form of circulation problems. I would recommend that you contact a gas safe registered engineer to call and check the boiler for you.

I have a Glow Worm Space Saver Mk II, which up to now has provided excellent service for the 13 years we have been in the house. However, over the last couple of weeks the pilot light has started to go out with increasing frequency, up to the point when it only lasts for @ 1 hour now. Re-lighting has been fairly easy. Any suggestions regarding the likely cause and solution ?

Hi Andy – My colleagues have suggested that it maybe a problem with the thermocouple (which can get worn away after a period of time). If this is the case then it can be easily replaced – I’d suggest contacting an engineer to confirm that is the case and he/she will be able to get it sorted for you. Cheers, sally

I have a Glowworm 18sxi. It keeps losing pressure. I’ve had a plumber out to check for leaks and he replaced a valve which has helped but not cured the problem i.e. I still have to repressurise every three to four days. I’ve also noticed a reduction in pressure from the hot water taps. Any suggestions?

Hi Marion, Sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing difficulties.
If the boiler is losing pressure then it is either leaking via the pressure relief valve outside, or there is a leak somewhere on the system. If it is leaking outside then the expansion vessel may have lost air charge and requires recharging to around 0.7 bar, also it maybe that the expansion vessel pipe which is blocked and requires cleaning, causing the pressure to rise then go out of the overflow.
If these things are ok then there must be a leak somewhere on the system.
I would recommend that your engineer isolates the boiler from the system and leaves it on test for a couple of days then he will know if the leak is on the boiler or the system. I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on. Cheers, Sally

Hi, thanks for your response. It turned out to be the expansion vessel which has now been replaced.

Hi,
Back to topWe have a 4yr 15hxi glow worm boiler unfortunately it has completely stopped working without an error message. I have tried turning it off and on a couple of times. The fan begins to whirr, the green light flashes but there are no sparks etc seen in the inspection window. Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Hi Caroline – Sounds like it could be the electrode or igniter, please consult an engineer to look at it for you.
Hoep you get everything sorted.

Hi, We have a 6 year old 15hxi glow worm boiler which is not working after a power cut. The green light flashes and the fan whirrs (like a washing machine drum going round) The display shows a flashing 8.8 c bar. It also occasionally clicks as though it is trying to start, but doesn’t. Any insight you can give into what this fault may be will be very much appreciated.

Hi Linda – from what you’ve described it sounds as though it could be a fault relating to the circuit board. I’d suggest consulting an engineer. Let me know how you get on! GW
