Do you qualify for the Boiler Scrappage Scheme?
We’re delighted to report that the boiler scrappage scheme has been given the official go ahead. Thousands of homeowners are set to benefit from the scheme, obtaining a rebate of £400 for any G rated boiler exchanged for an energy efficient A rated boiler, like the Glow-worm Ultracom.
A full list of boilers eligible for the rebate can be found at the Glow-worm website – click here to see if you qualify.
How it all works
First things first check that you have a G rated boiler – if you can’t find yours at our online list call the Energy Saving Trust to double check by dialling 0800 512 012.
The next step is to obtain a quote from a Gas Safe registered installer – you can contact a Glow-worm approved installer by clicking here all installers listed are Gas Safe registered. This information then needs to be used to register for your voucher online at the Energy Saving Trust website (www.est.co.uk) via telephone (ACT ON CO2 advice line on 0800 512 012) and provide the following.
i) Full name.
ii) The address of the property they wish to claim the voucher for.
iii) The make and name of the boiler being scrapped.
iv) The company name, address and contact details of the installer carrying out the work.
v) The type of replacement boiler to be installed e.g. gas, heatpump, biomass.
vi) Confirmation that they have received a quote or visit from the installer to carry out the work.
Wait until you have received the voucher before you give the go ahead to your installer on the job itself. When installation is complete simply claim the money back by sending the voucher with the invoice to the Energy Saving Trust.
Vouchers can be redeemed against a boiler from manufacturer which is for A-rated or equivalent gas, oil or LPG boilers, Micro CHP units or Microgeneration Certification Scheme-registered biomass boilers and heat pumps. Solar Thermal is also eligible if combined with an eligible boiler replacement. Electric boilers are not eligible.
Installation of a microgeneration technology must be carried out by a person qualified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. (www.microgenerationcertification.org)
Payment will be issued within 25 days of receiving the invoice and voucher.
A homeowner can online apply for either the Warm Front scheme or the boiler scrappage scheme – not both.
Homeowners can apply for both the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and the boiler scrappage scheme

Domestic heating accounts for 14% of the UK’s CO2 emissions, and the government has set ambitious targets for reducing them. The EST reports there are around 3.5m homes in England with the least efficient type of boiler (G-rated), so upgrading these will significantly reduce emissions. The £400 incentive must be spent on an A-grade boiler, which are 95% more energy efficient than G-rated boilers.

The finer details
To protect against fraud, the Energy Saving Trust says all submitted vouchers must contain the customer’s and the installer’s signature, as well as the Gas Safe/MCS registration number of the installer.

admin - “Hi D Walden, thanks for your message. The price of a new boiler – and installation – will depend on a number of factors e.g. the boiler you need to match your hot water requirements, the size of your property, your current central heating system etc. I suggest you try our boiler calculator and consult an installer in your area – either the one inferred in your msg or one from our approved list, which can be sought using our postcode search – see http://www.glow-wormheating.co.uk/approved-boiler-installers/find-an-installer.php
Thanks, Sally”
