Day three – is your boiler easy to operate?

Topics: Glow-worm
Day three of the poll and the functions of your boiler central heating system.
Do you think the controls on your boiler are easy to use? Spring will soon be sprung, but do you know how to change the programmable settings to adapt to the changing climate.
We want to hear your thoughts on the function of your boiler – maybe you feel that the dials would be easier to use if the clock was digital, maybe you’d like a sticker on the outside to display common codes.
Please get in touch!

We have just had an Ultracom boiler with a climapro rf system fitted at the house where our daughter lives. I find the programming of it incredibly complex and the supporting info not very well written. My daughter is struggling to understand it amd I too am at a loss, yet I have no problems builkding a pc , or creating and uploading a website…..Surely there can be better instructions and a more logical menu system. It appears that all the information is not in one place. I am not even sure if the Climapro overrides all the boiler controls or if a combination of settings are required!! All we need on the three port system to be able to program the heating and the water heating to be able to come on twice a day!!

Hi Chris
We are launching new controls later this year to help overcome some of these problems.
However I appreciate this will not help your own circumstances in the short term – the best approach is for your to contact our Technical team who will be able to talk you through setting the control.
I’ll send you a DM with the number – let me know how you get on!
Cheers, Sally

I have an Ultrapower sxi with a Climapro RF thermostat. I too find it hard going. fault finding seems to concentrate on boiler not firing. Mine keeps firing CH when it’s not supposed to, but there doesn’t seem to be any useful advice in the manual

Hi Dave
It sounds like the settings may not be fully set up correctly – if you’re still having problems after consulting the Climapro user manual, try contacting our technical team instead on 01773 828300.
Thanks, Sally

My Ultracom 38 hxi is still under warranty and is controlled by a Climapro RF. I agree that it is difficult to understand and would add it is not easy to override a setting or pick just radiators instead of the indirectly heated hot water tank. Please can you explain why its standard display just shows a tap icon when it is operating the central heating?

Hi Keith
The standard display shouldn’t show the tap symbol unless it is in a programmed time for hot water. If it is just on the heating setting then all you should have on there is the sunshine symbol and a clock symbol (if it on timed).
It might be best to contact us directly and we can talk you through the operation of the Climapro RF and clarify any parts of operation you still find unclear. Please feel free to contact one of my colleagues on 01773 828300.
Thanks, Sally

Thanks for your advice which confirms my doubts about the tap display. Nevertheless the Climapro RF has been working until now. But a fault has developed with the 38hxi and I want to eliminate this Climapro RF setting as a possible reason for the failure.
Please would you verify that the phone number you gave is still available to customers? It may have changed without you being told. I rang that number but the automated answer says it is only for professionals and I should ring another one. Nevertheless I went ahead in the hope that I would be accepted on the basis of your advice. I tried various menu options but was still redirected to other numbers.

I have just had a ultracom hxi installed and I am also having problems advancing the timed central heating programmer on/off times.
Back to topIn the instructions for use it says the advance function will only work in timed operating mode “Clock Symbol” What exactly does that mean.
My heating is timed to go on at 6 am off at 9 am – on at 4 pm and off at 10 pm same settings 7 days a week. Yet at 9.15 today when I wanted to advance the system (pressed the plus symbol for 5 seconds) it did not work and then I noticed the times on the clock had changed to on at 8 and off at 9 pm.

Hi I have a glowworm boiler with a climapro RF wireless thermostat .. I have had it now for a year and a half and I still can’t figure out the controls/numbers/settings etc. it is certainly the most difficult one I have ever seen in anyones house and tried to use!!
Back to topI have read the above comments and am wondering just how you get rid of the tap symbol off the main screen to make the heating work?! I seem to have tried every single way of pressing the buttons to no avail! I have taken down the number that you have given some of the other writers above but just thought I’d add my frustrations here too before calling!

Hi Claire, sorry to hear you’re having problems operating your controls. I’ll certainly pass on the feedback internally.
Back to topIn the meantime I think you’d be best advised to call our Group Services team for help – their number is 01773 828100.
