Day four – what would help you to become more energy efficient?

Posted: 11th February 2010

Topics: Glow-worm

January might be over but most of us are still feeling the effects of a tightened belt after Christmas and New Year celebrations.

It’s day four of the blog poll and we want to discuss energy efficiency and how this affects your personal budget.

Are there any monetary incentives (excluding a free boiler!) which may help to improve the efficiency of your home, within budget.  Perhaps a free energy audit, expert advice to help translate your home information pack or maybe even an extra year’s warranty on your boiler.

Please send through any suggestions, including any of your own energy saving tips from around the home.

I haven just moved into a Persimmon home with a Gloworm boiler (Ultracom38cxi). My previous home had an old Gloworm boiler that served me well for years and years so I was very pleased to have another one. My question is, what number should I have the heating and water on? The booklet says 50, however, if I use the thermostat with the boiler on 50 for heat and 50 for water, the rooms aren’t warm enough. Also what do I leave the boiler on at night and when I leave the house. I have had various site people in to help me but get different advice every time.

Hi Kath

Can you tell me what kind of controls you have?

For example http://www.glow-wormheating.co.uk/products/all-products/boiler-controls/controls.php

This will help me to advise on the most appropriate setting.

Cheers, sally
