Today marks the start of Climate Week; an annual, national event which aims to highlight the ongoing objective to combat climate change, offering a chance for the UK to shine a spotlight on the good work that’s being done in aid of protecting the planet, and reinforcing the country’s environmental aims.

With increasing awareness of climate change and the government’s recent announcement of energy saving initiatives such as the Renewable Heat Incentive, now is a great time for homeowners to focus on the ways in which we can all make small alterations at home and in our everyday lives to help fight climate change.

Climate Week gives us all, all the more reason to consider both how we’re using energy and if we can make small changes in our everyday lives which could make a big impact on saving energy, and preventing adverse climate change.

To celebrate this year’s Climate Week which takes place from 21st – 27th March, Glow-worm have come up with a few ideas of ways in which you can participate and we can all do our bit for the environment.

What can I do?

•	Leave the car at home

Walking or using public transport to get to work during Climate Week instead of driving, will help to help reduce the amount of CO2 emissions being pumped into the environment, which can in turn help towards the EU reaching its target of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas production by 2020.

If it isn’t too tricky, why not try and keep it up for longer?

•	Save energy at home

Small things like switching off the TV and the lights when you leave a room, only filling the kettle with the required amount of water and using your central heating to responsibly heat your home, can all add up to big energy savings if we all give it a go!

•	Renew your lifestyle

As well as cutting back on the amount of energy you rely on day-to-day, Climate Week provides a great reason to take a look at the possibilities renewable heating technologies such as solar thermal, or air to water heat pumps can bring to your home, and find out a bit more about how they could help you to save on your fuel bills and help to reduce your carbon footprint. Take a look at our advice on the possibilities available to you, including Clearly Solar, Clearly Heat Pumps and our unique Clearly Hybrid system.

•	Upgrade

Upgrading your old boiler to a new energy efficient model can help you to save significantly more energy, and help to reduce your bills. Experts at Glow-worm have calculated that if you replace an older standard efficiency boiler with a new high efficiency model, the average household could save around 18% on their heating bills straight away, so you save money as well as the planet!

Have fun!

People all around the country are getting involved with Climate Week, and hosting various fundraisers and events to raise awareness and funds to help with the ongoing campaign to reduce CO2 emissions, and the impact this can have on the earth’s climate.

With over 1000 individual Climate Week events taking place around the country this week, from quizzes to fundraisers and open days, there are plenty of places you can go, and fun ways to show your support and get involved in the cause. Just enter your postcode on this handy Climate Week event finder to find one near you! http://www.climateweek.com/find-an-event/

We’d love to hear your ideas about how to save energy in our everyday lives and reduce carbon emissions during Climate Week and beyond! Send us your suggestions by replying below, or Tweet us @yourhottopics

SEDBUK A rated boilers, like the Glow-worm Flexicom, are also a great way to save money on energy bills by as much as £240 a year.

More and more of us are also considering alternative energy sources. The Energy Saving Trust provides a pretty comprehensive guide on the different types available, click here for more information.

Renewable energy is incredibly important to us here at Glow-worm; our increasing range of renewable technologies is already helping many of you to avoid using the traditional energy sources that contribute towards climate change.

Did you know that over 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change come from home energy use?

By using renewable energy in your home you can avoid using energy sources that contribute to climate change.

Our Clearly Solar range, the Glow-worm solar thermal product, allows homeowners to produce energy from the sun.

Our newest addition to the range is the Clearly Hybrid, a product which combines the environmental benefits of an air to water heart pump with the practicality of a high efficiency boiler to create the UK’s first hybrid renewables system.

Due to launch in autumn 2010, the Clearly Hybrid is the first heating system which takes energy prices and outdoor temperature into account – it switches between a traditional gas condensing boiler and a 5kW air to water heat pump according to the most cost effective method of heating the home at the time.

Once installed a Clearly Hybrid system is adaptable to energy price changes, ensuring that the homeowner completely benefits from any developments in gas or electricity tariffs and supply.

We’ll be covering the launch of the Clearly Hybrid system in some detail over the next few months so keep your eyes peeled on the blog for the latest news.
